Trump, Covid-19 and the fragility of migrant lives – Conversations with Iris #15

The new episode of Conversations with Iris is the first part of a dialogue between Prof Nando Sigona, Director of IRiS, and Cecilia Menjívar, Professor of Sociology at UCLA and President-Elect of the American Sociological Association- ASA on the impact of the #Trump administration and #Covid-19 on migrant lives.

With legal status for immigrants becoming more precarious and fragile, professor Menjívar argues, the bar to achieve secure status and citizenship is so high to be beyond reach for ‘ordinary’ migrants. To become one of ‘us’, the traditional ‘good migrant’ must now become a ‘heroic migrant’.
